Marble backgrounds are trending these days. The modern graphic themes incorporate various textures of marble background. Photoshop is a world of its own and if you’re fond of marble textures and backgrounds, designing them yourself on Photoshop will be a different experience altogether. The objective of this article is to teach the step-by-step creation of a marble background in Photoshop.
Step 1: Create a New Document
If you are designing the background for a web template, create a new document of 1200 × 1200 pixels and keep the resolution at 72. Also, create the template at RGB color scheme and not CMYK, as the latter leaves your background white. For creating a design for digital paper prints, you need to keep the resolution at 300.
Step 2: Set Adjustments
Navigate your cursor to the layer box, double click on the lock icon, and unlock the template’s background.
Navigate the cursor to the toolbox, click on the default foreground and background color icon to set the colors to default white and black.
Step 3: Filters
Create a new layer by selecting the new layer option in the layer box. You will apply some filters in the first layer.
First Filter: Navigate to the panel on the top, select the filters tab, then select render and then select “Different Clouds”. The effect will be a blurred yet textured background. It needs more detailing.
Second Filter: To enhance the effect of the first filter, apply “Different clouds” again.
Subsequent Filters: Keep applying the Different Clouds filter until you get the desired detailed background. The number of applications depends on the look you want to create.
After considerable applications of the filter, you will notice that the template now looks like an image having clear and detailed Veining along with clouds.
Step 4. Adjust the Image
Go to the top panel, select images, then select adjustments and equalize your template to create a strong contrast between the light and dark areas of your template.
After equalizing, you need to set levels. Shift the levels to the left to obtain more detailed veining throughout the template.
Your layer is finalized, now duplicate this layer.
Step. 5 Top Layer Adjustments
Go to the edit tab, select Transform, and rotate the current layer by 90° clockwise.
Now you need to change the layer mode to fine-tune the mode. Merge both of the layers i.e. the top layer and the bottom layer on which the filters were first applied.
Customization
You could customize the marble background in a range of different colors and textures.
Customize Colour: To customize the color, create a new fill layer by selecting the adjustment layer icon at the bottom and then choosing the solid color option. Fine-tune the layer to control the color of the veining by selecting the screen mode. Now, you need to do the same thing again but select the multiply mode this time to control the background color.
Creating your own marble background successfully in Photoshop will surely be an experience that you will love. Having a marble background on your phone’s lock screen or your laptop’s Desktop will feel like an achievement, wouldn’t it?
