Biography

According to The Guardian, Irfan Khan (Irfan Khan) is “an outstanding film actor whose international career is an extremely valuable link between Bollywood and Hollywood.” Indeed, he began his creative career in his native India, and after “Slumdog Millionaire” began to appear more and more often in films in the United States and Great Britain. Irfan Khan’s filmography for 35 years of work has more than 40 projects.

Childhood and youth

The Indian actor was born on January 7, 1967 in Tonka, Rajasthan. His parents gave him the beautiful name Sahabzadeh Irrfan Ali Khan, which over time had to be shortened for a career.

The Bollywood pet was brought up in a poor Muslim family, Begum and Jagirdar Khan. There was barely enough money for food and clothing, let alone leisure. If the situation was different, Irfan Khan could become not an actor, but an athlete, because in his youth he played cricket well and was even invited to the prestigious CK Nayudu Trophy. The tournament had to be skipped – the participation fee and travel expenses were too expensive for the family.

Irfan Khan’s art was inspired by actor and maternal uncle Mithun Chakraborty , who worked as a theater director in Jodhpur. By the time the time came to decide on the future profession, the young man was well known on the stage of his native Jaipur.

In 1984, Irfan Khan unexpectedly for the whole family received a scholarship to the National School of Drama in New Delhi, the heart of India. The glorious history of the Bollywood and Hollywood actor began with the departure from his father’s house.

Personal life

On February 23, 1995, Sutapa Sikdar, a screenwriter and also a graduate of the National School of Drama, became the wife of Irfan Khan. Both passionately wanted to have children, and soon their desire was realized: sons Babil and Aykhaan were brought up in the family. The latter followed in his father’s footsteps and became an actor.

Irfan Khan has never hidden his personal life. He willingly posted photos with his wife and children on Instagram , shared the news on Facebook and Twitter . Irfan Khan is one of the few Indian celebrities who openly discuss religious issues in interviews.

The actor is 179 cm tall and weighs about 75 kg.

Films

Irfan Khan made her debut in the comedy “Salam, Bombay!” (1988). Interestingly, the scenes with his participation were never included in the final version of the film. The actor tirelessly went to auditions and by the 2000s he appeared in a dozen projects, none of which, however, received the attention of critics and viewers.

Irfan Khan’s name resounded loudly after the drama Warrior (2001). 5 countries were involved in its production – the USA, Great Britain, India, France and Germany.

Warrior is a festival film not suitable for wide distribution. It tells the story of a man named Lafkadia who once served the ruthless ruler of Rajasthan. By the will of fate, the warrior refuses weapons and vows never to commit violence. Angered by his decision, the ruler sends assassins on the trail of Lafcadia.

“Warrior” did not reach mass distribution, but film critics liked it. Therefore, the drama won a BAFTA award for Best British Film and even received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film.

In Bollywood, Irfan Khan made his debut with the film Addiction (2005). The tabloids wrote: “The eyes of Irfan Khan speak more than his words. He 100% reveals his talent at every, even episodic appearance in the frame. ”

Irfan Khan did not forget about his native Bollywood. For example, his work in Paan Singh Tomar (2012) won the Indian National Film Award for Best Actor. And the romantic comedy Lunchbox (2013) became the highest-grossing film in his Hindi filmography.

In 2018, due to illness, Irfan Khan stopped participating in the filming. But due to lengthy post-production, the last picture with his participation, “English at an Intermediate Level”, was released only in March 2020.

Death

In March 2018, Irfan Khan was diagnosed with a neuroendocrine tumor. This is a rare form of oncology that can affect any part of the body. The actor did not hide the diagnosis in anticipation of rumors and himself reported the illness on Twitter. Until February 2019, he received treatment in the UK.

Irfan Khan died on April 29, 2020 at the age of 53. The cause of death was an infectious disease of the colon. In the farewell statement of the actor’s family, it is said that he spent his last minutes in a circle of loving people in a Mumbai hospital.

The sad news was commented on by many Bollywood stars. Priyanka Chopra , for example, tweeted that Irfan Khan is a real source of inspiration. The actors played together in the thriller Seven Murders Forgiven (2011) and the action movie Outlaw (2014).
